Bincombe pupils take part in Swim Safe
Pupils from Y4, 5 and 6 (classes 8,9,10 and 11) went to the beach last Wednesday for a swimming lesson in the sea. To see more photographs please click here.
Swim England (formerly the ASA), the national governing body for swimming in England, and the RNLI, the charity that saves lives at sea, are working together to deliver a swimming and beach/lake safety awareness initiative for children aged 7-14 yrs.
Swim Safe For Schools offers FREE improver swimming tuition and water safety advice, using qualified teachers and RNLI lifeguards at beach, lake and lido locations. An hour-long session is tailored specifically to meet elements of the national curriculum swimming outcomes through practical work in the water. All pupils also receive some safety messaging items to take away after the session.
Aimed at pupils who are already able to swim 25 metres unaided, Swim Safe For Schools builds on that ability and teaches them the essential techniques to enable them to be safe in and around open water.
